The expressed views of the contributors of the entrepreneur are their own.
Over the last decade in unlikely and now with Somnia, I have been working on solving some of the most difficult problems in a new digital age. We have learned a lot from powering massively multiplayer video games, absorbing virtual events and defense simulations so sophisticated that Russia sanctioned me…
But in the process of building tools for virtual worlds, we have discovered something much basic: the infrastructure we needed for metavers has proved to be exactly what businesses need to work in the AI era.
Like many, we expected an increase in interest in “metavers” in 2021 will be a turning point. After all, we have worked on the persistent virtual space since 2012. But the depeper got a problem, the more we realized that the infrastructure is not ready. Virtual worlds that allowed thousands of people to move freely on different platforms with their identity and intact assets were simply not feasible for existing systems.
Blockchain, on paper, offered the right ingredients: user ownership, decentralized control and the ability to develop differently on a shared standard. However, when we tried to use real time interaction, it collapsed under weight. This system was too slow, too unstable and surrounded by applications that required sensitivity.
Imagine that you will try to start a zoom call where each video image had to be verified by thousands of computers before it can appear on the screen. That’s what we dealt with.
In the end we faced a selection. Either it continues to build applications on infrastructure that could not support them – or build a bearing infrastructure. What we eventually created, Somnia, began as necessary for playing. However, it became a plan for how business will work in the future formed by artificial intelligence, digital identity and real -time interaction.

New Digital Business Requirements
Three trends are colliding to transform modern organizations. First, AI is not leaning on a chatbot; He’s an actor. Digital ecosystems are beginning to participate in large language models. In our testing, we have agents generate thousands of transactions per second simply through their interactions and users.
Second, digital ownership is shifting from a specialized crypt interest in the mainstream expectation. People increasingly want control over their digital identity, property and reputations – and want these assets to persist and travel with them.
Thirdly, business is moving from transactions focused on relationships focused on relationships, where a continuous obligation in digital management around loyalty and growth.
There was no infrastructure to support this convergence. So we built a system that could process more than a million transactions per second, about 20,000 times faster than traditional blockchain systems. If you want to state it from a business point of view: imagine the difference between a corner trade that can serve 50 customers a day and Walmart SuperCenter, which can serve 50,000.
Beyond Gaming: Business Application and Impact on Cultural
This jump jump has consequences that go far beyond playing and drive real business results. Retailers can monitor the change in stocks in thousands of real -time stores for a fraction of the penny to the update. Manufacturers can create safe and verifiable supply chains that do not endanger speed. Financial institutions can process compliance checks, document verification and settlement with transparency and effectiveness.
However, a greater shift is cultural. When AI begins automatic routine tasks, we enter what I call the “economy of performance”. As mentioned in my book Virtual Society: Metavers and New Borders of Human Experience. It’s not just productivity. It is a meaning. People are looking for purposes, community and creativity in a digital environment where they now spend growing parts of their lives.
AI helps by saving time and taking over the barden process, which allows us to focus our energy on more valuable activities. This surroundings go beyond entertainment. These are places of work, cooperation, identity and economic activity. In many cases, AI agents will participate with us.
This is a strategic shift for business. When your users consume your product but contribute to your platform and build on your platform, your roles will change. You will not just leave to be accepted; You’re a host. Your brand becomes part of the ecosystem – the one that thrives participation, portability and interaction. Support for this shift requires an infrastructure that can scalance, keep ownership around and attach diverse platforms into a single smooth experience in real time.

What comes next
Most business leaders do not think of blockchains, consensual algorithms or transaction permeability – and they should have it. It depends on where your company is ready for the world, where intelligent agents are carried out with people, where users bear the persistent digital identity between services and where the commitment is happening in real time, not only during planned interactions.
The hype of hype surrounds that Metovers could go through, but the vision of a shared, persistent, intelligent digital environment increases more than ever. What has begun as a solution for virtual worlds now becomes the basis of how businesses bring value in the connected future controlled AIT.
